    This is a very valid point. If employer or his lawyer asks more money in fees for filing I485 it is always better to go thro employer if he files I485 promptly. But if the delay is intention of the employer then use your own Lawyer.

    Desi companies - HIGHLY ADVISABLE TO USE UR OWN LAWYER AND DONT LINK LAWYER AND EMPLOYER - THEY HAVE TENDENCIES TO BECOME BUDDIES BASED ON BUSINESS PROMISES.

    TAKE ALL DOCUMENTS FROM EMPLOYER AND GIVE TO LAWYER. U MAINTAIN UPPER HAND WITH LAWYER.

    485 RFE IS COMMON FOR EMPLOYER- LAWYER COMBO OF DESI COMPANIES.

    Lawyer needs money and employer needs prolongation.

    With rules changing and with CIR reintroduction and with Durbin Grassley amendments - Desi companies will be having tough business in future - they will try to retain consultants in whatever way possible. So beware. These people are sweet in their talk - but they do everything opposite to what they talk.

    This maybe applicable to non desi companies also - this dates becoming current is an acid test for employer's genuinity.

    So be cautious - watchful and get things done in smart way. 180 days down the lane the story is different.

    When I joined this forum it was to look advice on my case and to offer help when I could. No one has ever taken the time to explain what the objectives of the Core are. What I see alot of are #1 asking people to contribute and #2 members complaining about people asking their questions in the wrong area or opening too many threads. Someone needs to explain fully what Core is doing and list ways for the members to help. I would love to help if I can. Unfortunately I don't have a lot to offer financially being that my husband and I are living off one income. I wish I could go to the rally but I cant afford to do that either. There must be some way that I can help- stuffing envelopes or something- anything. But what I would love to see is an explanation of what it is the Core is trying to accomplish and a set of guidelines for posting if possible because I am so sick and tired of seeing "please close this thread"

    A core member has been helping me in this matter. I really have to thank the core for being so responsive and for giving this matter the kind of attention it deserves. There is some progress in this case and the quickness with which the IV Core acted on this and moved the issue forward gives me and my family hope.
    We have been patiently waiting in the immigration queue for close to 10 years and finally when we are so close to the end of this long journey become victims of a clerical error which was completely out of our control. IV has provided our family with hope. I thank IV for that
    We pray that this issue gets resolved and I hope that no one else has to go thorugh this trying situation.

    Seems like everyone losing hope including core - as someone else said above its really sad to see this. Please dont lose hope at this critical moment else all of our efforts for last two years will go waste.

    I cant imagine how much time/effort has been put into this effort by core members (as a relatively inactive member I myself could have easily spent several hundred hours on these forums in last year and half; and atleast some time in calling/faxing etc.). After all these efforts and seeing the current bill its understandable to get deeply disappointed. But dont lose hope yet. Its not over.

    Logiclife - coming this from you really shook me. At one point you were so confident that having our measures in any future CIR is but gauranteed - we thought its just a matter of time. All of us were also thinking that we are in a better position to introduce and enact amendments in this congress. We still have time (2 weeks) for amendments - why are we thinking about alternate arrangements and slowly losing hope. Does this show our level of confidence now or this thread is meant for some light hearted fun?

    Employer letter is not required if you are attaching photocopies of two current pay stubs.

    This is incorrect.

    Remember, GC is for the future job and I-485 is not H1 filing where you need pay stubs.

    One needs EVL for I-485. The job position must be open in order for beneficiary to file for I-485 application.

    Does anyone know if its possible to just renew the green-card or one has to apply for naturalization after 5 years?

    You can revnew your GC after an intial period of 10 years. You are at your free will and wish to remain on your GC. You will be eligible for Naturalization after 5 years. That does not mean that you have to use that oppurtunity.

    Now to the original question of this thread.

    It is highly recommended that one must stay with the original sponsoring company for atleast 6 months after the GC is approved. If you leave the company in good terms with them or rather if they do not create any fuss, then you are safe.

    Say in my case, my original employer laid me off and I ported my process with AC21 to another company, where I am working for 3 yrs and just got my GC approved. I am not obligated to stay with this company as they are not my original sponsor. And again they cannot revoke my GC.

    Having said that, the employers can create problems for you, if they decide to hunt you down. But that will not do them any good other than the 'revenge' they may enjoy on you.

    My collegue was planning to leave his company after GC approval and his employer cancelled the GC process by withdrawing the application. The USCIS has informed him about this officially to him. He was panicked and was about to start another application and one fine morning, his GC approval came to him through snail mail.

    What I am trying to say is there are laws, rules, processes and methods. Not everything will be applicable everytime or does not happen all the time. It truly depends on your luck too.

    Any means of sending this would be helpful. Lets make it as easy as possible for people. For now - lets see if we can get over a 1000 people to do this.

    Ideally in addition to posting your letter on www.WhiteHouse.gov/Contact, it would help if you send a letter to your Senators office as well.

    Instead of sending emails, wouldn't it be better to send USPS mail or faxes?

    I have sent electronic forms to state senators & whitehouse.gov.

    Copanies like INFOSYS are not the culprits. This is going tangenatially. It is the local small desi body shops that suck blood and hold candidates life in their hand because of GC. They should be investigated.

    Cos big or small are all responsible for the plight of their employees.

    Not many from these companies (INFY..etc) crib because a minimal % of employees deputed in US have their GC processed. The ones who care for a GC move on to either a desi body shop or permanent employment.

    India was demanding latest fighter jets (F-22) but US can offer only old version F-16,F-18 to India. Basic reason for US denial to latest technology because of India -US relation and their status .US only offers new technology to its close allys. I think it was prudent move from India’s part to get latest and greatest technology. To get these new technologies US congress needs to pass law and define India as close ally.
